8th Festival of Embassies: A Culinary and Cultural Celebration in Prague
On June 7, 2025, Prague’s Vítězné náměstí in the Dejvice district hosted the 8th edition of the Festival of Embassies: Food & Culture, transforming the square into a vibrant tapestry of global flavors and traditions. This annual event, initiated in 2016 by former Thai ambassador Narong Sasitorn, has grown into the Czech Republic’s largest international street food festival, drawing approximately 15,000 visitors each year.
The festival is co-organized by the Municipal District of Prague 6 and the Farmers’ Markets Association (Farmářské Trhy), known for their popular “Trhy na Kulaťáku” markets. Their collaboration with embassies, honorary consulates, and chambers of commerce brings together over 50 countries to showcase their culinary delights and cultural heritage.
At the heart of the festival lies the philosophy of “Food and Culture Connecting Nations.” Embassy staff, including ambassadors and their families, actively participate in preparing traditional dishes, often using authentic ingredients and spices unique to their regions.
Some embassies even invite renowned chefs to present their national cuisines.
Beyond the gastronomic offerings, the festival features a rich cultural program with performances from participating countries. Attendees can enjoy traditional music, dance, and art, providing a holistic experience of each nation’s heritage.
The Festival of Embassies not only offers a feast for the senses but also serves as a platform for public diplomacy. By fostering direct interactions between diplomats and the public, the event promotes mutual understanding and strengthens international relations.
With free entry and a welcoming atmosphere, the festival continues to be a highlight in Prague’s cultural calendar, celebrating the diversity and unity of the global community.
