Celebration of the 113th Anniversary of Albania’s Independence Day at the Mandarin Oriental Prague

A splendid evening with diplomats, political representatives and business leaders – and a look back at 113 years of Albania’s history

On Tuesday, 2 December, His Excellency Ilir Tepelena, Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Czech Republic, together with his wife Marcella Tepelena, hosted an evening reception on the occasion of the 113th anniversary of Albania’s Independence Day. The celebration took place in the magnificent halls of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Prague, one of the city’s most elegant venues.

The event was attended by numerous members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of politics and business, cultural figures, civil society members and many friends of Albania. The evening offered an excellent opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between Albania and the Czech Republic.

Two speeches, two perspectives – Albania and the Czech Republic in dialogue

The official addresses were delivered by His Excellency Radek Pech, Director General for Europe at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Ilir Tepelena.

Speech by Radek Pech:

Pech highlighted the close partnership between the two countries, Albania’s steady progress towards EU integration and its role as a stabilising factor in the Western Balkans. He reaffirmed the Czech Republic’s firm support for Albania’s EU accession path.

Speech by Ambassador Ilir Tepelena:

The Ambassador spoke about the historic declaration of independence in 1912, the challenges Albania has faced throughout its history and the country’s modern European aspirations. He thanked the Czech Republic for its longstanding support.

Historical Background – Albania’s Independence Day

On 28 November 1912, Ismail Qemali declared Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire in the city of Vlora. The 113 years that followed witnessed monarchy, occupation during World War II, the communist regime under Enver Hoxha, and the democratic transition beginning in 1991. Today, Albania is a member of NATO and an active candidate for membership in the European Union.

The reception combined traditional Albanian hospitality with the elegance of the hotel. Guests praised the atmosphere, the culinary specialties, the cultural program, and the opportunity for diplomatic exchange.

Oslava 113. výročí Dne nezávislosti Albánie v hotelu Mandarin Oriental Praha

Vznešený večer s diplomaty, zástupci politiky a podnikatelské sféry – a pohled na 113 let albánské historie

V úterý 2. prosince uspořádal Jeho Excelence Ilir Tepelena, velvyslanec Albánie v České republice, spolu se svou manželkou Marcellou Tepelenou večerní recepci u příležitosti 113. výročí Dne nezávislosti Albánie. Slavnost se konala v nádherných prostorách hotelu Mandarin Oriental v Praze, jednom z nejprestižnějších hotelů ve městě.

Recepce se zúčastnilo množství členů diplomatického sboru, představitelé politického a hospodářského života, osobnosti kultury, občanské společnosti i přátelé Albánie. Večer poskytl vynikající příležitost k posílení bilaterálních vztahů mezi Albánií a Českou republikou.

Oficiální projevy pronesli Jeho Excelence Radek Pech, generální ředitel pro Evropu na Ministerstvu zahraničních věcí ČR, a velvyslanec Ilir Tepelena.

Projev Radka Pecha:

Pech zdůraznil úzké partnerství mezi oběma zeměmi, postup Albánie na cestě k evropské integraci a její roli stabilizačního prvku na západním Balkáně. Ujistil, že Česká republika pevně podporuje albánské úsilí o vstup do Evropské unie.

Projev velvyslance Ilira Tepeleny:

Velvyslanec připomněl historické vyhlášení nezávislosti v roce 1912, výzvy, kterými Albánie během své historie prošla, a její současné evropské směřování. Poděkoval České republice za dlouholetou podporu.

Historické pozadí – Albánský den nezávislosti

Dne 28. listopadu 1912 vyhlásil Ismail Qemali ve městě Vlora nezávislost Albánie na Osmanské říši. Následujících 113 let bylo poznamenáno monarchií, okupací během druhé světové války, komunistickým režimem Envera Hodži a demokratickou transformací po roce 1991. Dnes je Albánie členem NATO a aktivním kandidátem na vstup do Evropské unie.

Recepce spojila tradiční albánskou pohostinnost s elegancí luxusního hotelu. Hosté ocenili atmosféru, kulinářské speciality, kulturní program a příležitost k diplomatickým rozhovorům.

Oslava 113. výročí nezávislosti v Praze byla symbolem silného přátelství mezi Albánií a Českou republikou. Velvyslanec Tepelena a jeho manželka Marcella vytvořili nezapomenutelný večer plný historie, kultury a diplomacie.

Ein glanzvoller Abend mit Diplomaten, Politik und Wirtschaft – und ein Blick auf 113 Jahre albanischer Geschichte

Am Dienstag, dem 2. Dezember, lud Seine Exzellenz Ilir Tepelena, Botschafter der Republik Albanien in der Tschechischen Republik, gemeinsam mit seiner Gattin Marcella Tepelena, zu einem festlichen Empfang am Abend anlässlich des 113. Jahrestages des Unabhängigkeitstages von Albanien. Schauplatz der Feierlichkeiten waren die prachtvollen Räumlichkeiten des Mandarin Oriental Hotels in Prag, eines der elegantesten Häuser der Stadt.

Der Einladung folgten zahlreiche Mitglieder des Diplomatischen Korps, Vertreter aus Politik und Wirtschaft, Persönlichkeiten aus Kultur und Zivilgesellschaft sowie viele Freunde Albaniens. Der Abend bot Gelegenheit zur vertieften Pflege der bilateralen Beziehungen zwischen Albanien und der Tschechischen Republik.

Zwei Reden, zwei Perspektiven – Tschechien und Albanien im Dialog

Die offiziellen Ansprachen hielten Seine Exzellenz Radek Pech, Generaldirektor für Europa im tschechischen Außenministerium, sowie Botschafter Ilir Tepelena.

Rede von Radek Pech:

Pech würdigte die enge Partnerschaft zwischen beiden Ländern, Albaniens Fortschritte im EU-Integrationsprozess und die Rolle des Landes als Stabilisator auf dem Westbalkan. Er betonte, dass Tschechien weiterhin fest hinter dem EU-Beitritt Albaniens stehe.

Der Botschafter erinnerte an die historische Unabhängigkeitserklärung von 1912, die Herausforderungen der albanischen Geschichte sowie den modernen europäischen Kurs Albaniens. Er dankte Tschechien für die langjährige Unterstützung.

Am 28. November 1912 erklärte Ismail Qemali in Vlora die Unabhängigkeit Albaniens vom Osmanischen Reich. Die folgenden 113 Jahre waren geprägt von Monarchie, Besatzung im Zweiten Weltkrieg, dem kommunistischen Regime unter Enver Hoxha und der demokratischen Wende ab 1991. Heute ist Albanien NATO-Mitglied und ein engagierter EU-Beitrittskandidat.
