Celebrating the 95th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Prague

On the evening of September 23, 2025, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Prague hosted a grand reception at the historic Palác Žofín, one of the Czech capital’s most distinguished venues. The event was organized on the occasion of the 95th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and brought together a distinguished gathering of Czech and international guests.

The host of the evening was His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Muteb Alrasheed, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic was officially represented by Senator Pavel Fischer, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Senate, and by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Marian, both of whom emphasized the strong and growing ties between Prague and Riyadh.

In addition to a nearly complete turnout of the diplomatic corps accredited in Prague, the reception was attended by leading figures from Czech culture, business, and public life. Among the guests of honor was former President and Prime Minister Václav Klaus, whose presence highlighted the significance of Saudi-Czech relations within the broader political and economic context.

Ceremony and Atmosphere

The evening began with the solemn performance of the national anthems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic, a gesture symbolizing the friendship between the two nations. This was followed by a ceremonial act that captured the spirit of the celebration: Ambassador Abdullah M. Alrasheed, Deputy Minister Marian, and Senator Fischer jointly cut a large cake decorated with the flag of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The festive moment was met with applause and warm appreciation from the assembled guests.

The culinary aspect of the reception was equally memorable. A buffet of traditional Arabic cuisine delighted the guests, with the highlight being the roast lamb, prepared in authentic style and reflecting the hospitality for which the Kingdom is renowned. Alongside savory dishes, sweet specialties and traditional beverages added to the atmosphere of genuine Arabian warmth and generosity.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – A Brief Historical Perspective

The celebration of the 95th National Day provided not only an opportunity for cultural exchange and diplomatic dialogue but also a moment to reflect on the remarkable history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Kingdom was founded in 1932 by King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud, who succeeded in uniting the diverse regions of the Arabian Peninsula into one sovereign state. His vision and leadership laid the foundations of modern Saudi Arabia, establishing stability, security, and the beginnings of modernization while preserving deep cultural and religious traditions.

Since then, the House of Saud has played a central role in the Kingdom’s political and social development. Successive monarchs have built upon the legacy of King Abdulaziz, guiding the nation through challenges and opportunities while strengthening its position on the global stage.

The Reign of King Salman and the Vision of the Crown Prince

Today, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Arabia continues to pursue prosperity, stability, and international cooperation. King Salman’s reign is marked by a careful balance of tradition and reform, preserving the Kingdom’s cultural identity while advancing modernization.

Of particular note is the role of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), whose ambitious program Vision 2030 is transforming the Kingdom. Vision 2030 seeks to diversify the Saudi economy beyond oil, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhance opportunities for the younger generation. Cultural, educational, and economic reforms are opening new paths for the Kingdom’s future, making it a vital partner in the global community.

The Crown Prince’s efforts in infrastructure development, renewable energy, and high-technology industries underscore Saudi Arabia’s determination to be at the forefront of progress. At the same time, the Kingdom continues to emphasize its role as the custodian of Islam’s two holiest sites, ensuring that modernization proceeds hand in hand with respect for tradition.

Saudi–Czech Relations

Events such as the celebration at Palác Žofín highlight the deepening relationship between Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic. Trade, investment, and cultural exchanges are growing steadily, and the presence of senior Czech representatives at the reception reaffirmed Prague’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Riyadh.

Senator Pavel Fischer, in his capacity as Chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasized the importance of dialogue and partnership between the two nations, while Deputy Minister Jan Marian highlighted the opportunities for further collaboration in economic, scientific, and cultural fields.

The evening was thus not only a commemoration of Saudi Arabia’s National Day but also a platform for reinforcing the bonds of friendship between two nations that share a commitment to stability, prosperity, and mutual respect.

A Celebration of Friendship and Future

The 95th National Day reception on September 23, 2025, in Prague was a reminder of how national celebrations can transcend borders, becoming occasions for diplomatic friendship, cultural pride, and international understanding. Guests left Palác Žofín with a sense of warmth and respect for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its people, and its leadership.

As Saudi Arabia moves confidently toward its centenary, guided by the vision of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Kingdom stands as a beacon of progress in the Middle East—an actor deeply rooted in tradition, yet open to global engagement.

The reception in Prague was, therefore, more than a festive evening; it was a tribute to the enduring legacy of the House of Saud, a celebration of 95 years of statehood, and a reaffirmation of friendship between Riyadh and Prague.
