Celebration of the “Festa della Repubblica”, Italy’s National Day at the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague
On June 4th, the Italian Embassy in Prague hosted a distinguished reception to mark the occasion of the Festa della Repubblica, Italy’s National Day, commemorating the institutional referendum of 1946 that led to the foundation of the Italian Republic. The celebration took place in the beautiful historic surroundings of the Italian Cultural Institute (Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Praga) in Vlašská Street, nestled in the heart of Prague’s historic Malá Strana district.
His Excellency Mauro Marsili, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Czech Republic, welcomed a diverse gathering of guests from the diplomatic corps, Czech political and cultural life, business representatives, members of the Italian community, and friends of Italy. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Marsili emphasized the long-standing and deep-rooted ties between Italy and the Czech Republic, underlining shared European values, cultural cooperation, and ongoing economic partnerships.
The festive atmosphere of the evening was enriched by a performance from the Chapel of the Prague Castle (Hudba Hradní stráže a Policie ČR), which played both national anthems and a selection of classical and Italian pieces, adding a ceremonial and emotional dimension to the event.
The celebration served not only as a tribute to the Italian Republic but also as a vibrant display of Italy’s enduring cultural presence in Prague. Guests enjoyed Italian culinary specialties and wines, mingled in the Renaissance gardens of the institute, and shared conversations in a spirit of friendship and collaboration.
The evening reaffirmed the strong bonds between Italy and the Czech Republic — built on mutual respect, shared heritage, and a vision for a united Europe.
