ČEZ wants to accelerate the carbon neutrality of its operations by 10 years
The ČEZ power group wants to achieve carbon neutral operations as early as 2040, whereas the previous target was 2050. This follows a voluntary agreement on cooperation in climate protection between ČEZ and the Ministry of the Environment, which was signed on Friday at the hydroelectric power plant in Štěchovice near Prague by Minister Anna Hubáčková (from KDU-ČSL) and ČEZ CEO Daniel Beneš.
Beneš says the company will achieve this goal by developing renewable resources and nuclear energy. ČEZ continues to plan to build 6,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy by 2030.
“This is a significant announcement; it is a significant signal for other companies, for other ministries, especially for other polluters,” Hubáčková said.
The Ministry of Environment will support ČEZ in its transition to climate neutrality, especially in constructing renewable energy sources such as innovative photovoltaics and agro-voltaic.
