Czech Parliament Launches “Parlamentárium” Educational Project to Bridge the Gap Between Past and Present

In a significant development, the Czech Parliament has unveiled its latest educational endeavor, “Parlamentárium,” a project designed to provide the public with valuable insights into the history and current operations of the legislative body. Located within the Šternberský Palace in Prague, Parlamentárium welcomes school groups and registered individuals for guided tours, offering an engaging and interactive experience.

The grand opening of Parlamentárium in the Chamber of Deputies took place on Wednesday, marking the culmination of four months of dedicated effort. The project encompasses approximately 45 square meters of exhibition space, featuring a range of exhibits. These include a lectern where visitors can take photographs, models of the Parliament building and the assembly hall, and captivating video mapping projections.

Markéta Pekarová Adamová, Speaker of the Chamber (TOP 09), expressed her enthusiasm for Parlamentárium’s mission to make the legislative process more accessible to the public. She emphasized its role in bridging the gap between the Parliament’s historical legacy and its contemporary functions, providing visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the institution’s work. The inspiration for this educational initiative was drawn from similar projects undertaken in other countries.

Parlamentárium will be incorporated into the guided tour circuit, ensuring broad access, primarily targeting school groups. However, it will also be open to other interested individuals who can register for visits every Monday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This initiative aligns with a broader strategy to increase public engagement by opening the doors of the Chamber of Deputies to the general public.

The Šternberský Palace, with its rich historical significance, serves as an ideal location for Parlamentárium. The investment in this educational facility, totaling nearly two million Czech koruna, underscores the Czech Parliament’s commitment to fostering transparency and public involvement. The establishment of Parlamentárium represents a significant milestone in achieving these objectives.

Parlamentárium presents an exciting opportunity for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the Czech legislative body. By offering a unique and immersive experience, it enables individuals to delve into the Parliament’s history, functions, and its role in shaping the nation’s future. This initiative is pivotal in strengthening public participation and nurturing an informed and engaged citizenry.
