Jídlo podáváme v několika kolech a oběd často trvá od poledne až do večera a někdy dokonce celou noc

První kolo se může skládat ze sleďů, nakládaných i v kari omáčce, gravadlaxu, vajec, krevet a obalovaných rybích filetů s remuládou – vše se dává na krajíc žitného chleba

Ve druhém kole jíme masové kuličky, pečené vepřové maso, kachnu, teplou játrovou paštiku a dánskou vepřovou klobásu. Přílohou bývá žitný chléb, červené zelí, vařené brambory a hnědá omáčka

Přestože jste možná po dvou kolech jídla přecpaní, oběd se většinou zakončuje dánským vánočním dezertem risalamande. Jedná se o studený rýžový nákyp podávaný s horkou třešňovou omáčkou!

Dánský vánoční oběd si dáváte většinou i několikrát za sezónu, protože si jej nesmíte nechat ujít jak v kruhu rodinném, tak s přáteli a kolegy v práci. A těchto obědů prostě není nikdy dost: my v Dánsku vánoční obědy milujeme!

How do you celebrate the Xmas festivities?

In Denmark, we gather for ‘julefrokost’ which translates as ‘Xmas lunch’. A Danish traditional Xmas lunch involves a lot of food, beer and snaps. The food is served in different rounds and the lunch often lasts from noon until the evening and sometimes even all night.

The first round can consist of herring, both pickled and in curry sauce, gravadlax, eggs, shrimps and breaded fish filet with remoulade – everything goes on top of slice of rye bread

In the second round, it’s common to have meatballs, roasted pork, duck, hot liver pâté and Danish pork sausage. Sides are usually rye bread, red cabbage, boiled potatoes and brown sauce

Even though you might be stuffed from the two rounds of food, the lunch is often rounded off with the Danish Xmas dessert, risalamande. It is a cold rice pudding served with hot cherry sauce!

The Danish Xmas lunch can be held in many ways and with both friends, family, colleagues and associations. And one thing is sure: the Danes love Xmas lunches!
