Commemoration at 78 took place today at the national cemetery next to the former Nazi cemetery in Terezin. to the anniversary of the end 2. world wars, dedicated to Czech and other European citizens who were victims of concentration camps.
The main speaker was the President of the Czech Republic Peter Pavel, who said that from this place he calls on us not to abandon our joint efforts to defeat Russia in Ukraine and thus reject the disregard of international law that we are witnessing. Historical experiences that we must remember and put in the context of today’s situation must encourage us to do so, which is the only way not to repeat past mistakes.
The commemoration was, in accordance with tradition, attended by the Czech state summit, survivors and ambassadors of European and allied countries. Ambassador Tanja Strniša laid a wreath on behalf of 🇸🇮.
Nazis deported 155.000 Jews from all over Europe to the Terezin transition camp. It is estimated that around 35.000 died in Terezin due to hunger, stress and bad conditions, and most of them died in death camps where they were deported from Terezin.
