Embassy of Ukraine in Prague / Velvyslanectví Ukrajiny v Praze
On May 8, on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation and the 78th anniversary of the Victory in World War II, the Embassy of Ukraine in Prague with the participation of the Honorary Guard of the Czech Armed Forces organized a ceremony of laying flowers to the memorial of the killed fighters of the 1st Ukrainian Front and the memorial of the heroes of the Prague Uprising at the Olshan Cemetery in Prague.
At the invitation of the Temporary Commissary of Ukraine in the Czech Republic Vitaly Usatogo in a ceremony honoring Ukrainians who died in battles on the territory of Czechoslovakia, participated: Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Milos Vistrcíl, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Parliament of the Czech republic Tomas Chernin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yan Lipavsky, Chairman of the interparliamentary friendship group of the Czech Republic i – Ukraine Pavel Žaček, Mayor of Prague Boguslav Svoboda, First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic Frantíšek Schultz, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Republic Miroslav Glavach, Colonel of the General Staff, Deputy Head of the Military Office of the President of the Czech Republic Otakar Foltin. Together with Czech high-ranking officials, the event was also attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Czechoslovak Legionnaires, representatives of the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic and leading local media.
The ceremony was held in the spirit of solidarity with Ukraine, which heroically resisted the onslaught of Russian occupants. Ukrainian and Czech flags were raised above the memorial on this day, performed by the military orchestra the hymns of Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
In every speech of the respected guests to the present, the key role of Ukrainians in the liberation of Europe and, in particular, Czechoslovakia, from German Nazism and sounded words of support for Ukraine.
The Embassy holds a ceremony every May 8 in honor of Ukrainians who died during the Second World War on Czechoslovakia. Most soldiers of the 1st, 2nd and 4th Ukrainian fronts who liberated Czechoslovakia from the Nazi occupation were mobilized to the Red Army from the territory of present-day Ukraine. Largely thanks to the heroism of Ukrainians, the Nazis of the Central European country, including Czechoslovakia.
