European League of American Football begins! It will also have a Czech representation for the first time
The third year of the European equivalent of the overseas NFL starts already this Saturday, June 3. Since last year, another 6 teams have joined the league, so this year 17 of them will compete against each other. One of them is the Czech Prague Lions, who will fight for the title for the first time on Sunday, June 4. The whole event is being watched by the Netflix crew, and the creation of a documentary film is under discussion. Prague, 30 May 2023 – The popularity of American football in Europe is increasing every year, and the establishment of the European Professional League of American Football (ELF) is proof of that. It was created in 2021 in response to the growing popularity of the NFL (USA). “The ELF league has a reach of over half a billion households around the world, who are eagerly watching which team will be this year’s winner. It’s a great opportunity for our players to play at the highest European level and show that we have what it takes,” says Prague Lions coach Zach Harrod.
In the first year, only 8 teams participated in the league – six from Germany and one each from Poland and Spain. However, two years were enough, and eight teams have grown to seventeen, which are fighting for the title of European champion, and the first match starts already this weekend. The Prague Lions themselves will make their first appearance at the FK Viktoria Žižkov stadium, where they host the German team Leipzig Kings on Sunday 4 June from 16:25.More information: https://europeanleague.football/
