Factors to Consider When Installing a Heat Pump for Cost Savings on Heating Bills

Heat pumps can provide significant cost savings on heating bills but require proper installation and consideration of certain factors to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. The CEO of Acetex, Jakub Mahel, notes that the savings achieved with a heat pump depend on the type of heating being replaced, with potential savings ranging from 30% to 70% compared to original costs.

One crucial consideration when installing a heat pump is the condition of the house. If the house has significant heat losses due to leaky windows, doors, or poor insulation, addressing these issues before installing the heat pump is necessary to maximize its benefits.

The technical room where the heat pump is installed is another critical factor to consider. The room should be at least 1.5 by 2.5 meters in size, with separate supply cables and wide doors for components such as water tanks, secondary fuses, and control units. Additionally, the technical room should have a sewerage system for overflow valves.

Choosing a certified company or worker and selecting a branded heat pump that meets subsidy conditions and performance criteria is also essential. Noise level is another crucial factor to consider when selecting a heat pump supplier.

The cost of installing a heat pump ranges from CZK 360,000 to CZK 450,000, with subsidies available from the government. The payback period can be as little as three or four years. The installation takes two to three days and should be done outside the heating season, as the heating system needs to be drained. Heat pumps require some electric current to operate and operate at temperatures of approximately minus 25 degrees Celsius.

The most common types of heat pumps are air/water pumps, followed by ground/water pumps. Ground/water pumps typically have higher initial costs because of land modification or drilling. It is essential to choose the most suitable type of pump for the home’s location and requirements.

In conclusion, a heat pump can provide significant cost savings on heating bills, but proper installation and consideration of factors such as the home’s condition, technical room, and pump type are crucial for its effectiveness and efficiency. With the government subsidy available and a payback period of as little as three to four years, investing in a heat pump can be a smart financial decision for homeowners.
