Fiala: By stopping gas to Poland, Russia violates treaties and escalates the situation
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) considers Russia’s decision to stop the supply of natural gas to Poland to escalate the situation and a violation of contracts. According to Fiala, it is necessary to reduce dependence on Russian fuels gradually. The Prime Minister said this on Twitter today.
Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Síkel (STAN) wrote that Russia is using gas as a weapon. Both were reacting to the announcement by the Polish gas company PGNiG that Russia’s Gazprom will stop supplies through the Yamal pipeline from 08:00 on Wednesday.
“Thus, there is a further escalation of the situation and violation of valid contracts on the part of Russia. This is another proof that we must gradually eliminate our dependence on Russian fossil fuels,” Fiala said.
In talks with European Commission representatives on Monday, he saw a determination to get rid of the dependency.
Last December, representatives of the Czech Gas Association and NET4GAS said that any disruption of supplies through the Yamal pipeline would have little or no impact on the Czech Republic.
The Czech Republic mainly receives its raw materials from other transport routes, said at the time a representative of NET4GAS, which provides international transport of this raw material to the Czech Republic.
