National Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina

On Thursday, 20 November 2025, the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Czech Republic, Martina Mlinarević, together with her partner Goran Dikov and the Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Tarik Altumbabić, and Mrs. Sanela Altumbabić, hosted a ceremonial event on the occasion of the National Day. The celebration took place in the representative premises of the Czech Automobile Club in Prague and attracted almost the entire diplomatic corps, numerous friends of Bosnia, as well as many members of the Bosnian community in the Czech Republic.

The event began with an official welcome by Ambassador Mlinarević, who emphasised the historical significance of the day and the close friendship between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Czech Republic. This was followed by a speech by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Czechia, Jan Marian, who outlined his country’s security and foreign policy priorities and highlighted its European future.

A special cultural moment of the evening was the performance of a well‑known Bosnian singer, who performed two songs in honour of the National Day, creating a solemn and emotional atmosphere.

Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to personalities who have made outstanding contributions to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also present were Czech soldiers who served in Bosnia during the 1990s as part of international missions – a strong symbol of the historical bond between the two countries.

The speeches also touched on the country’s history. The Bosnian War of the 1990s – triggered by the declaration of independence in 1992 – was highlighted as a tragic chapter that exposed deep ethnic tensions between Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs. The consequences of the conflict still shape the country today and are reflected in its complex political system, consisting of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska.

At the same time, the gaze was directed firmly toward the future: Bosnia and Herzegovina is striving to join both NATO and the European Union. These ambitions aim to strengthen political stability, support economic development, and anchor the country within European structures. Nevertheless, challenges remain – political blockades, ethnic tensions, and the need for far‑reaching institutional reforms are central tasks.

After the official part, a festive reception followed. Traditional Bosnian dishes, music, and cultural presentations created a warm atmosphere and offered guests numerous opportunities for conversation, exchange, and new connections.

The celebrations clearly showed: despite its difficult past, Bosnia and Herzegovina looks to the future with determination and hope – together with its partners in Europe and the international community.

Státní den Bosny a Hercegoviny

Ve čtvrtek 20. listopadu 2025 uspořádala velvyslankyně Bosny a Hercegoviny v České republice, Martina Mlinarević, společně se svým partnerem Goranem Dikovem a honorárním konzulem Bosny a Hercegoviny, panem Tarikem Altumbabićem, a paní Sanelou Altumbabić slavnostní recepci u příležitosti státního svátku země. Oslavy proběhly v reprezentativních prostorách Českého autoklubu v Praze a zúčastnila se jich téměř celá diplomatická komunita, mnoho přátel Bosny a také početní příslušníci bosenské komunity v České republice.

Akce začala oficiálním přivítáním velvyslankyní Mlinarević, která zdůraznila historický význam tohoto dne a blízké přátelství mezi Bosnou a Hercegovinou a Českou republikou. Následoval projev náměstka ministra zahraničních věcí Czechia Jana Mariana, který představil bezpečnostní a zahraničněpolitické priority své země a zdůraznil její evropskou perspektivu.

Zvláštním kulturním okamžikem večera bylo vystoupení známého bosenského zpěváka, který u příležitosti státního svátku zazpíval dvě písně a vytvořil slavnostní a emotivní atmosféru.

Dalším vrcholem večera bylo předávání ocenění osobnostem, které se mimořádným způsobem zasloužily o Bosnu a Hercegovinu. Přítomni byli také čeští vojáci, kteří v 90. letech sloužili v Bosně v rámci mezinárodních misí – silný symbol historického pouta mezi oběma zeměmi.

V projevech byla zmíněna také historie země. Bosenská válka 90. let – vyvolaná vyhlášením nezávislosti v roce 1992 – byla připomenuta jako tragická kapitola, která odhalila hluboké etnické napětí mezi Bosňáky, Chorvaty a Srby. Důsledky konfliktu ovlivňují Bosnu a Hercegovinu dodnes a odrážejí se v jejím složitém politickém systému, tvořeném Federací Bosny a Hercegoviny a Republikou srbskou.

Současně byl kladen důraz na budoucnost: Bosna a Hercegovina usiluje o vstup do NATO i Evropské unie. Tyto ambice mají posílit politickou stabilitu, podpořit ekonomický rozvoj a dlouhodobě zakotvit zemi v evropských strukturách. Přesto zůstávají výzvy – politické blokády, etnické napětí a potřeba rozsáhlých institucionálních reformací.

Po oficiální části následovala slavnostní recepce. Tradiční bosenské speciality, hudba a kulturní vystoupení vytvořily příjemnou atmosféru a nabídly hostům mnoho příležitostí k rozhovorům, výměně názorů a navazování kontaktů.

Oslavy jasně ukázaly, že Bosna a Hercegovina se navzdory své složité minulosti dívá do budoucnosti s odhodláním a nadějí – společně se svými partnery v Evropě a mezinárodním společenství.

Am Donnerstag, dem 20. November 2025, luden die Botschafterin von Bosnien und Herzegowina in der Tschechischen Republik, Martina Mlinarević, gemeinsam mit ihrem Partner Goran Dikov sowie dem Honorarkonsul von Bosnien und Herzegowina, Herrn Tarik Altumbabić, und Frau Sanela Altumbabić zu einer feierlichen Veranstaltung anlässlich des Nationalfeiertags ein. Die Feierlichkeiten fanden in den repräsentativen Räumen des Tschechischen Automobilclubs in Prag statt und zogen fast das gesamte diplomatische Korps, zahlreiche Freunde Bosniens sowie viele Angehörige der bosnischen Gemeinschaft in Tschechien an.

Die Veranstaltung begann mit einer offiziellen Begrüßung durch Botschafterin Mlinarević, die in ihrer Rede die historische Bedeutung dieses Tages hervorhob und die enge Freundschaft zwischen Bosnien und Herzegowina und der Tschechischen Republik betonte. Anschließend sprach der stellvertretende Außenminister Tschechiens, Jan Marian, der die sicherheits- und außenpolitischen Prioritäten seines Landes erläuterte und insbesondere die europäische Zukunftsperspektive Bosniens hervorhob.

Ein besonderer kultureller Moment des Abends war der Auftritt eines bekannten bosnischen Sängers, der zu Ehren des Nationalfeiertags zwei Lieder präsentierte und damit für eine feierliche und emotionale Atmosphäre sorgte.

Ein weiterer Höhepunkt war die feierliche Verleihung von Auszeichnungen an Persönlichkeiten, die sich in besonderer Weise für Bosnien und Herzegowina engagiert haben. Ebenfalls anwesend waren tschechische Soldaten, die in den 1990er-Jahren während des Bosnienkriegs im Rahmen internationaler Missionen dienten – ein starkes Symbol der historischen Verbundenheit beider Länder.

In den Reden wurde auch die Geschichte des Landes thematisiert. Der Bosnienkrieg der 1990er-Jahre – ausgelöst durch die Unabhängigkeitserklärung von 1992 – wurde als tragisches Kapitel hervorgehoben, das tiefgreifende ethnische Spannungen zwischen Bosniaken, Kroaten und Serben offenlegte. Die Folgen des Konflikts prägen Bosnien und Herzegowina bis heute und spiegeln sich im komplexen politischen System wider, das aus der Föderation Bosnien und Herzegowina und der Republika Srpska besteht.

Gleichzeitig richtete sich der Blick klar nach vorn: Bosnien und Herzegowina verfolgt das Ziel, sowohl der NATO als auch der Europäischen Union beizutreten. Diese Bestrebungen sollen die politische Stabilität stärken, die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung fördern und das Land langfristig in die europäischen Strukturen integrieren. Dennoch bestehen weiterhin Herausforderungen – politische Blockaden, ethnische Spannungen und tiefgreifende institutionelle Reformbedarfe bleiben zentrale Aufgaben.

Nach dem offiziellen Teil folgte ein festlicher Empfang. Traditionelle bosnische Spezialitäten, Musik und kulturelle Präsentationen schufen eine warmherzige Atmosphäre und boten den Gästen zahlreiche Gelegenheiten für Gespräche, Austausch und neue Kontakte.

Die Feierlichkeiten machten deutlich: Bosnien und Herzegowina blickt trotz einer schwierigen Vergangenheit entschlossen und hoffnungsvoll in die Zukunft – gemeinsam mit seinen Partnern in Europa und der internationalen Gemeinschaft.
