Open Day at Prague Castle – 29 November 2025

Prague, 29 November 2025 — Thousands of visitors gathered on Saturday for the annual Open Day at Prague Castle, a tradition that allows the general public to enter parts of the presidential complex normally closed to visitors. This year’s event attracted exceptional attention, not only because of the current political climate in the Czech Republic, but also due to renewed interest in the historical and cultural significance of the Castle — the symbolic heart of the Czech state.

A Rare Look Inside the Seat of the Presidency

Throughout the day, long but fast-moving lines formed at the entrance gates leading into the courtyards of the Castle. Visitors were granted access to several key areas, including the Spanish Hall, the Rudolfinum Corridor and state reception rooms, selected offices used for diplomatic and governmental meetings, and parts of the Old Royal Palace, where Czech history has been shaped for more than a millennium.

Public Dialogue and Transparency

The Open Day also carried an important political message. In recent years, public debate about transparency, communication and the symbolic role of the presidency has intensified. The Castle’s leadership emphasized that opening the complex is a gesture of accessibility and public engagement — allowing citizens to see where decisions are made, foreign dignitaries are received, and national traditions are upheld.

Cultural Program and Exhibitions

Visitors enjoyed a rich cultural program, including live performances by military bands, exhibitions of historical documents and presidential gifts, screenings of archival footage documenting state visits, and children’s educational activities such as heraldry workshops and guided treasure hunts.

Strong Turnout Despite Cold Weather

Despite temperatures just above freezing, turnout exceeded expectations. Organizers reported tens of thousands of attendees throughout the day. Many expressed appreciation for the chance to access national heritage sites—especially at a moment of heightened public interest in political developments.

A Tradition Likely to Continue

The Open Day at Prague Castle has evolved into a cherished civic tradition. While the political landscape shifts, the symbolic power of the Castle remains. This year’s event once again demonstrated the public’s desire to connect with the country’s heritage and experience the workings of the presidential seat firsthand.
