Prague Librarians Provide Book Delivery Service to Senior Readers

Librarians in Prague’s Prague 3 district are going above and beyond to deliver books to senior readers with health issues who are unable to visit the library in person. This valuable service, offered free of charge, aims to support seniors who may face mobility challenges. The only requirement is that the seniors reside within a 15-minute distance from the library.

Prague 3 is fortunate to have two city libraries, located on Husitská Street and Za Žižkovskou vozovnou Street, respectively. These libraries provide an excellent opportunity for individuals with health problems to utilize the convenient book delivery service. Seniors aged 70 and above can take advantage of this service by contacting the librarians via phone arrangements. They are then presented with a selection of five books to choose from. For those who are comfortable with modern technology, an e-reader is available, and a specialized program called KnihDoKaps provides training sessions to enhance the reading experience. The city library’s electronic book collection covers various genres, including detective novels, non-fiction literature, and poetry.

The city library on Za Žižkovskou vozovnou Street goes the extra mile by offering additional activities for seniors through the Fresh Senior project. These activities include lectures, workshops, memory training courses, and thematic events designed to engage and enrich the lives of senior citizens. As part of this initiative, a fascinating guided tour of interesting places in Žižkov was organized in collaboration with a local gardener, the municipal greenery administration, and the third municipal district.

Prague 3 is dedicated to caring for its senior residents and providing spaces for connection and engagement. The city library facilitates book clubs, reading sessions, handicraft courses, and more. Additionally, plans are underway to revive collaboration with the Remedium civic association. In the past, colleagues delivered book donations to seniors associated with the association, further enhancing the reading experience and supporting the well-being of older individuals.

For book enthusiasts of all ages, the platform knihobot.cz offers an excellent opportunity to find affordable books. This unique website focuses on returning previously read books into circulation and showcases the latest titles at highly advantageous prices. Readers can also sell their used books on the platform and receive 60% of the selling price, providing an opportunity for cost savings. For example, books by Patrik Hartl can be purchased for approximately half the price compared to traditional bookstores, making reading more accessible and affordable for everyone.
