Prague to Create Strategy for Traffic Management Development

The City of Prague is set to create a new strategy for the development of traffic management, according to an announcement made by Prague councilors. The document will provide a basis for selecting technologies and preparing projects that will enhance traffic management, safety, and operations on the roads in the city. It is expected to cost around five million Czech crowns, though the timeline for its development is yet to be determined.

The strategy will be based on the integration of transport infrastructure with information systems and telecommunication technologies, a process known as telematics. This includes electronic information boards for drivers and other technologies that will streamline traffic management in Prague.

The previous traffic management strategy for the city was created in 2002, and has since become outdated and unusable. Several other partial documents have been created since then, but there has been no comprehensive strategy to guide their implementation. The new document will have two parts, one covering the next four years, and the other covering the following ten years. It will include thematic areas and principles, information on development between 2016 and 2022, and a plan for sustainable mobility.

The process of creating the document will include an analysis of the current state of traffic management, followed by the proposal phase, in which individual proposals, steps, and procedures will be identified. This will be followed by an opposition phase, where experts and representatives from municipalities and political parties in the city council will have the opportunity to comment on the proposals. Once this phase is complete, the document will be approved by the city’s management.

The new traffic management strategy is an essential step towards ensuring the efficient and safe management of traffic on the roads of Prague. By integrating new technologies and approaches, the city will be better equipped to handle the increasing number of vehicles on the roads, and to ensure the safety and convenience of its citizens and visitors. The development of the strategy is expected to take some time, but it is a crucial investment in the future of the city.
