Škoda Auto to Resume Production at Kvasiny Plant Following Supply Chain Disruption

Škoda Auto, the renowned Czech automobile manufacturer, is poised to recommence production at its Kvasiny plant following a temporary shutdown lasting a week due to a supply chain disruption. The disruption was triggered by a sub-supplier in Slovenia, which suffered from the devastating impact of floods that damaged its production facilities.

Production lines at the Kvasiny plant, along with partial operations at Mladá Boleslav, are set to restart on Sunday evening but will initially operate at a reduced capacity. Notably, Škoda Auto has concurrently increased the production of its fully electric model, the Enyaq, as confirmed by Ivana Povolná, the spokesperson for Škoda Auto.

The sub-supplier in Slovenia is currently capable of delivering parts only to a limited extent and is actively working towards fully restoring production. This component shortage has had repercussions across the entire Volkswagen Group. Škoda Auto had earlier disclosed that the missing component was a ring gear for the dual-mass flywheel used in internal combustion engine models of Škoda and other group brands.

Povolná further elaborated that the company is placing a strong emphasis on augmenting the daily production capacity of the Enyaq, which remains unaffected by the ongoing supply chain disruption.

With the resumption of production, Škoda Auto aims to mitigate the repercussions of the supply chain disruption and minimize any potential production shortfalls that may arise due to component shortages in the coming week. The company remains adaptable and will consider adjusting the number of shifts based on the availability of parts for specific models utilizing internal combustion engines.

Despite the recent disruption, Škoda Auto has consistently maintained production of the Enyaq, a prominent member of its expanding range of fully electric vehicles. The company has been progressively increasing its electric vehicle production in recent years, with the Enyaq notably representing its debut in the fully electric SUV segment.

The automobile industry has faced numerous challenges in recent times, including disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and, more recently, the devastating floods in Europe. These disruptions underscore the critical importance of building resilient and dependable supply chains.

With the resumption of production, Škoda Auto is demonstrating its determination to rebound from the supply chain disruption and continue its vigorous pursuit of electric vehicles. The company has set ambitious targets for electric vehicle production and aspires to solidify its position as a prominent player in the thriving electric vehicle market.
