Targeting Fiala’s government

In an interview in LN in July on the occasion of her 10th year in office, Senior Prague State Prosecutor Lenka Bradáčová engaged in some careful criticism of the judicial system in terms of the ticket scandal at DP Praha transit company and the purchase of Casa aircraft. She criticized the acquittals but did it in such a roundabout way that it didn’t cause any public outrage, unlike Andrej Babiš’s frequent remarks about “political trials” and “targeted scandals” meant to run him out of politics. Even Bradáčová has her doubts at times about the fairness of the system, but the parties of the ruling coalition have backed themselves into a corner by lambasting Babiš for his “outrageous claims.” This makes it difficult for ODS, STAN and KDU-ČSL to argue now that their own politicians are being singled out for political purposes. Yet the number of scandals involving their politicians and the heavy flow of police information to the media is indeed worthy of attention. PM Petr Fiala can’t dare say it out loud, but he couldn’t be blamed if he sometimes had the impression that the police are out to get his government.
