Turkish National Day Reception in Prague – A Celebration of Friendship, Culture, and Diplomacy under the Autumn Sky
On 29 October 2025, at precisely 1 p.m., the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Prague hosted a distinguished reception to celebrate the Turkish National Day. The event took place in the official residence of H.E. Metin Feyzioğlu, Ambassador of Türkiye to the Czech Republic and his spouse who is the coordinator of the culture committee of Diplomatic Spouses Association in Prague (DSA) Mrs. Birgül FEYZİOĞLU.
Commemorating the Republic
The 29 October National Day marks the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Türkiye. Every year, Turkish embassies worldwide commemorate this anniversary with pride, reflecting on the historic transformation that shaped the country’s identity as a modern, forward-looking, and globally engaged nation.
The Prague celebration combined the formalities of diplomatic protocol with an atmosphere of genuine friendship. Guests included members of the diplomatic corps, Czech government representatives, business leaders, academics, journalists, members of the Turkish community, and friends of Türkiye from across Czech society.
Opening and Addresses
The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from the Embassy’s staff, followed by the reading of the official message from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The message conveyed deep pride in the nation’s accomplishments, gratitude toward the Turkish people, and appreciation to friends and partners worldwide who stand with Türkiye in celebrating its Republic Day.
Afterward, H.E. Metin Feyzioğlu, Ambassador of Türkiye, took the podium. In his address, he reflected on the century-long friendship and mutual respect that have marked relations between Türkiye and the Czech Republic. He emphasized how both nations, though geographically distant, share the same values of independence, resilience, and progress.
“Our partnership stands today on pillars of mutual understanding, cooperation, and cultural dialogue,” he said. “As Türkiye continues to grow stronger, we take pride in maintaining a partnership with the Czech Republic that is built on trust, economic collaboration, and shared values within the Euro-Atlantic community.”
Ambassador Feyzioğlu also highlighted the increasing flow of Czech tourists to Türkiye, the expanding bilateral trade volume, and numerous joint cultural and educational projects that link the two nations. He concluded by thanking his embassy team, the Turkish community in Czechia, and the Czech partners who help foster friendship between the two peoples.
Remarks by Deputy Minister Jiří Kozák
Representing the Czech government, H.E. Jiří Kozák, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, extended warm congratulations on behalf of the Czech Republic. In his speech, he underlined Türkiye’s importance as a strategic ally within NATO and a key economic partner of the European Union.
Deputy Minister Kozák acknowledged Türkiye’s vital role in maintaining regional stability, fostering intercultural dialogue, and contributing to global security. He noted that relations between Prague and Ankara have steadily developed not only in trade and investment but also in education, tourism, and cultural exchange. “Today’s celebration is not only about honoring the foundation of the Turkish Republic,” Kozák said, “but also about recognizing the friendship that unites our two nations.”
Festivities and Cultural Highlights
Following the speeches, the atmosphere lightened with the much-anticipated raffle (Tombola). Among the prizes were round-trip tickets donated by Turkish Airlines, which drew lively applause from the audience. The winners were announced and personally drawn by former Czech President Václav Klaus, whose presence was met with warm appreciation and cheerful applause.
After the formal programme, guests were invited to enjoy an exquisite selection of traditional Turkish dishes—from meze platters and grilled delicacies to sweet baklava and strong Turkish coffee, served in ornate cups that filled the air with its characteristic aroma. The garden resonated with soft Turkish music as diplomats and friends of Türkiye mingled in informal conversation.
What was planned as a midday event extended well into the afternoon, as many guests stayed long past the official closing time, enjoying the relaxed and convivial atmosphere under the golden Prague sky.
A Symbol of Enduring Partnership
The 2025 Turkish National Day Reception in Prague was more than just a diplomatic gathering; it was a celebration of enduring friendship and a demonstration of the strong cultural and political ties connecting the two countries. With heartfelt speeches, warm hospitality, and the beauty of the garden reception, the event once again confirmed Türkiye’s prominent place in Prague’s diplomatic and cultural landscape.
