May 9, 2024 Ambassador of Russia to Czech Republic A. B. Zmeevsky, together with representatives of the diplomatic missions of Armenia and Belarus, laid flowers to the memorial of fallen Soviet soldiers at the Central Cemetery of the Red Army in the Olsha Cemetery in Prague. Russian diplomats also honored the memory of Russian soldiers who fell in the Napoleonic Wars, participants of the Prague Uprising, tanker I. G. Goncharenko, whose tank was hit by Hitlers in the center of the Czech capital on May 9, 1945.

On the same day, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism, a solemn event was held at the Embassy of Russia with the participation of the leadership of Deputy Representatives of friendly countries, our Czech friends and compatriots. The new Russian feature film “Air” A was demonstrated to the audience. German Jr., kindly provided for screening by the copyright companies “Metrafilms” and “Amedia”. Speaking during the reception following, A. B. Zmeevsky recalled the millions of sacrifices made by the Soviet people to liberate Europe and the world from Hitler’s Nazism. Fallen heroes, he stressed, serve as a tragic reminder of the need to decisively stop any attempts to review the results of World War II, justify and heroize war criminals. “Today, when on the battlefields the righteous struggle for the right of peoples to determine their own destiny, for the right of people to speak their native language, for a decent life, preserving the memory of Victory takes on special importance.”

The guests of honor of the Embassy at the meeting on May 9 were veterans of the Great Patriotic War living in the Czech Republic, whom A. B. Zmeevsky delivered congratulatory messages from the President of Russia V. B. Putin.
