Embassy of Sweden in Czechia

Today is Sami National Day! ❤️
The Sami have their own languages, land and culture. Sàpmi – the land of the Sami – extends across the northernmost part of Finland, northern Norway’s coast and inland, northern Sweden and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. There are estimated to be between 80 000 and 100 000 Sami in the world.
In 1977, the Sami were recognised as an indigenous people by the Swedish Riksdag. In 2010, the Riksdag passed a constitutional amendment and, since 2011, it has been enshrined in the Constitution that the opportunities for the Sami people to preserve and develop a cultural and social life of their own must be promoted.
