A press conference on 50 measures was held in Prague on 11 January 2024 to accelerate the pace of renovation of buildings to achieve energy efficiency and decarbonisation targets

In Prague, the Art & Event Gallery Black Swan held a major press conference under the auspices of the Association for Infrastructure Development as part of the Green Deal For Bulidings project, presenting the results of seven past roundtables with more than 50 concrete measures aimed at accelerating the renovation of buildings in the Czech Republic. The meeting highlighted the need to increase the pace of renovations so that the goals of energy efficiency and decarbonisation could be achieved.
Currently, only 1% of buildings in the Czech Republic undergo comprehensive renovation every year. In order to meet energy efficiency targets and reduce emissions, this figure needs to be at least doubled. The meeting thus represents an important step towards a more sustainable and energy efficient future for the Czech Republic.
“Energy savings not only in buildings but also in production halls have enormous potential for reducing CO2 emissions. This is especially true in hard frosts, when the energy we save by insulating buildings during the winter months cannot simply be replaced by renewable sourcing. At the same time, it is the insulation of the building that brings the savings on heating that is most economically worthwhile,” said marian Piecha, senior director of the EU funds section of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, who has personally participated in several round tables.
The conference featured prominent leaders of the most important programs supporting energy efficiency improvements in the Czech Republic, including The Environment Minister Petr Hladík, The Chief Director of the EU Funds Section Marian Piecha and The Director of the State Environmental Fund Petr Valdman. These experts presented their perspectives and conclusions from discussions that took place on roundtables with participants in the fields of construction, finance, energy, government and academia. The conference was attended by guests from a wide range of organizations from the financial sphere, public administration, construction companies and energy service providers.
