Across the country, thousands of people are queuing for the special 1,000-crown

The Czech National Bank (CNB) has issued a special 1,000 CZK banknote to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the split of the Czechoslovak currency. This overprinted banknote is available for purchase at the CNB’s cash desks in several cities across the country for CZK 1,000. The overprint, which is located on the face of the banknote, features the CNB’s 30th anniversary logo and a motif of a period stamp from the time of monetary separation. The CNB is circulating 200,000 of these special banknotes.

Despite interest from collectors and dealers, the CNB doesn’t expect the value of the banknote to grow over time due to the large issue run of 200,000 pieces. The CNB is also commemorating the anniversary with an exhibition “Divided!” at the CNB Visitors Center and plans to hold conferences on the development of the Czech banking sector and the impact of the 2009 financial crisis.
