Aleš Najbrt takes viewers through Czech graphic design
Historically, the first show about Czech graphic design, in the form of a seven-part television cycle, is aimed at viewers of Czech Television. It is called Identity – the story of Czech graphic design. TIME will launch it on Thursday, January 11, 2024. In it, guide Aleš Najbrt introduces the candidates not only to leading graphic designers – pioneers of the field, but also to contemporary creators.
“The series can certainly help public awareness of Czech graphic design, it is important that it shows the best in graphic design. I think it is mainly book design, where we are at a high level, as well as graphic processing of posters – theatre, film and various cultural events,” says Najbrt.
Among the 100 graphic design protagonists, the typographer Zdenek Ziegler is absent from one of his last interviews, the focus is on the respected graphic artist Jiri Rathouski or the artist Karl Teige, jan Solpera, Clara Istler ová or Rostislav Vaněk, the younger generation is presented by Tomáš Machek, Petr Babák, Robert V. Novák, Klára Kvízová, Tomáš Brousil, Marek Pistora or Zuzana Lednická.
Identity will be on view at ČT art starting on January 11 every Thursday until February 22, starting at 8:15 p.m., after which the 40-minute show will be available on iBroadcast.
The television cycle is part of a large-scale project of the same name, which pays homage to Czech graphic design, and includes an upcoming exhibition of the same name, a narrative monograph and a feature documentary film.
