Arrest Made: Suspect Charged with Robberies at Betting Shops in Havířov

A 27-year-old man stands formally charged by the police for his alleged involvement in two daring robberies that targeted betting shops in Havířov. The suspect’s modus operandi involved the use of a plastic dummy gun, through which he managed to seize a total exceeding 50,000 crowns.

The series of robberies occurred in late January and early February of the current year, strategically timed to unfold just prior to the betting shops’ closing hours. According to police spokeswoman Daniela Vlčková, the suspect, adorned with a mask, would enter the premises brandishing the dummy gun, instilling fear among the employees. He would then demand cash, coercing compliance from the staff who, in their concern for safety, would deliver the money via the cash-in and cash-out slot. Subsequently, the perpetrator would make his escape.

Vlčková shared that the accused originates from Havířov but was momentarily residing outside the Moravian-Silesian Region. It was during his return to his hometown that he allegedly carried out these criminal acts. However, the long arm of the law caught up with him last week when detectives successfully apprehended him. The suspect reportedly admitted to the offenses during interrogation, attributing his actions to financial hardships.

If convicted, the accused could potentially face a prison sentence of up to 10 years. This arrest and formal charging exemplify law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring public safety and swiftly bringing perpetrators to justice. The case underscores the multifaceted challenges authorities face in addressing criminal activity, while also highlighting the importance of preventive measures and community cooperation in maintaining secure environments.
