As early as Friday, 1 March, this year’s World Athletics Indoor Championships will begin in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Czech representatives will march on it in large numbers, with 23 athletes and athletes nine more than two years ago in Belgrade. The three-day program culminates in the women’s 1,500 meters final on Sunday, March 3.  Czech athletes will fly to Glasgow two days in advance. They will also include sprinter Petr Svoboda and ball thrower Tomáš Staněk, who also took part in press conference 27. 2. 2024 in Prague
Petr Svoboda is the oldest and most experienced Czech athlete in his 39 years. He has had a number of successes in his career, being the 2011 European indoor champion and winning bronze at the other two championships. But he is not entirely calm before flying to Scotland. ‘There’s always nervousness, age doesn’t seem to decide that at all. Even though I might be 17th at an event like this, it’s not something that’s supposed to make me feel any better. I’m nervous about my health,” the Czech sprinter recalled the problems that have plagued him during his career.
Jan Štefela is ranked highest in the world standings before the start of the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow by Czech athletes. Meanwhile, just a week ago, the 22-year-old high-flying charge of Jaroslav Baba had not counted on a trip to Scotland.
The Czech expedition is heading to Britain’s third largest city with ambitions to improve its 2022 record, when The Czech Republic failed to acquire any valuable metal. The last such medal of this event was celebrated by the Czechs in Birmingham in 2018, at that time Pavel Maslák enjoyed gold in the quarters and the bronze was won by the bowler Tomáš Staněk.The good result can then definitely be achieved by both the men’s and women’s fourth-round relay.
Czech Television is a traditional provider of both domestic and world athletics events and will offer a full programme of the championships on its screens this year. Saturday and Sunday morning programme will be seen on channel ČT2, the whole Friday and evening weekend programme will be seen on sports channel ČT Sport.
