Brewers are launching new variations of their favourite beer mixes and flavoured non-alcoholic beers for the summer

Summer is coming and the breweries are gearing up for their main season. Alongside traditional lagers and draught beers, the consumption of flavoured beers increases significantly in the summer, both non-alcoholic and so-called low-alcohol beer mixes. Meanwhile, the popularity of flavored beers is growing over the long term, and unlike classic lagers, women and younger generations are drinking them more. As consumers become increasingly interested, the range of flavours on offer is also expanding – from traditional ones such as lemon, grapefruit, elderflower, apple or plum to more exotic ones such as cranberry, rosemary or yuzu. Combinations of multiple flavors are also available.
The popularity of flavoured beers, both non-alcoholic and low-alcohol (beer mixes with an alcohol content of about 2%) has been growing over the long term, with this category accounting for 8% of local beer production last year. Total production of non-alcoholic and flavoured beers reached 1.3 million hl, up 13% year-on-year, and historically the highest volume so far. Popular flavors of flavored beers include citrus (grapefruit, lemon or orange), forest fruits (raspberry, blueberry or blackberry), but also based on traditional Czech fruits such as apple, pear or plum. Selected innovations for this summer season were presented by the Czech Brewers and Malting Association as part of its where beer is brewed project.
“Customers are expecting new flavours this year, but also flavoured beers with less or no added sugar at all. Breweries are thus accommodating the trend of healthy consumer lifestyles. Flavoured beers are a quality alternative for adult consumers because, unlike other sweetened beverages, they generally contain no artificial sweeteners, colours or preservatives,” says Martina Ferencová, executive director of the Czech Union of Brewers and Maltsters.
The project of the Czech Union of Brewers and Malthouses Where beer is brewed celebrates contemporary Czech brewing. It is divided into several themes featuring interesting personalities, stories, projects and industry trends.
