The consultation had an ambitious agenda, centred on three pillars: security, European policy and energy. Specifically, the Czech and German representatives discussed the war in Ukraine, the impact of this conflict and the possibilities for further assistance to Ukraine, as well as the approach to Russia, the search for synergies in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction and support for the country’s preparations for EU accession.

Important topic were also further possibilities for cooperation in the field of energy security, in which our partners and neighbours play a crucial role. In addition, experts discussed regional issues, for example the Western Balkans, Africa and Latin America, China, the Indo-Pacific and Central Asia.

The Czech-German Strategic Dialogue builds on the Czech-German Declaration of 1997 and has been one of the pillars of Czech-German relations since its establishment in 2015. It covers cooperation at the government level in 11 priority areas in which, in addition to the foreign ministries and the Office of the Government, other ministries (e.g. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defence etc.) actively participate. The aim of the Strategic Dialogue is to connect ministries and other relevant actors with their DE counterparts beyond the usual bilateral agenda, while jointly defining longer-term, strategic objectives against the background of current events in Europe and the world.
