Czech Hydrometeorological Institute Issues Warning of Potential Ice Formation in Eastern Region

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued a cautionary advisory regarding the imminent threat of ice formation in the eastern region of the country. This icy condition is projected to materialize during the night of Wednesday and persist into Thursday morning.

Anticipating precipitation, the ČHMÚ forecasts that the incoming rain from the northwest on Wednesday night, evolving into snow at higher altitudes, may freeze on contact with the cooled surfaces in certain areas, particularly in Moravia. This freezing of rain is expected to result in the formation of a thin layer of ice, posing potential hazards on roads and pathways. Meteorologists emphasized that this weather phenomenon is anticipated to diminish as the day progresses.

The warning is applicable from midnight to 9:00 am on Wednesday for sections of the South Moravian, Olomouc, Zlín, and Moravian-Silesian regions.

In addition to the risk of ice formation, the ČHMÚ also foresees windy conditions in the upcoming days. Moreover, heavy precipitation is expected on the mountain ridges of the Czech Republic on Thursday. A preliminary warning has been issued, suggesting that this could lead to substantial increases in water levels.

The ČHMÚ emphasizes its commitment to monitoring the situation closely and will issue further warnings as deemed necessary to ensure public safety. Residents in the affected regions are advised to exercise caution, stay updated on weather alerts, and take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential risks associated with icy conditions and increased water levels.
