Czech Meteorologists Warn of Morning Ground Frosts Damaging Crops.
Meteorologists in the Czech Republic have issued a warning that morning ground frosts could cause significant damage to warm-season crops, such as potatoes and vegetables, across the country on Wednesday and Thursday. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) recommends covering crops with a light nonwoven textile to mitigate the effects of low temperatures.
The warning is valid from midnight on Tuesday until 8 a.m. on Wednesday for the entire Czech Republic, except for the Moravian-Silesian, Zlín, Olomouc, and most South Moravian regions. The warning will affect the entire country from midnight on Wednesday to 8 a.m. on Thursday.
According to the latest forecast, temperatures will drop to 3 to -1°C on Wednesday and Thursday morning. Gardeners and farmers are urged to take the necessary precautions to protect their plants from frost damage. Farmers have reported significant losses due to unseasonably cold weather in the past, despite warnings.
This is not the first time the Czech Republic has seen this type of warning. In April 2021, a similar warning was issued due to freezing temperatures and frost, which could damage fruit trees and plants. The recent warning highlights the importance of paying attention to weather forecasts and taking necessary precautions to protect crops and plants.
Frost damage can cause significant losses to farmers, especially those who rely on crops for their livelihoods. It is essential to monitor weather conditions and take preventive measures such as covering crops, using heaters or wind machines, and adjusting irrigation practices to protect crops.
In conclusion, the warning of morning ground frosts in the Czech Republic highlights the need for farmers and gardeners to take necessary precautions to protect their crops and plants from frost damage. It is essential to monitor weather forecasts and take preventive measures to mitigate the effects of low temperatures. By taking the necessary steps, farmers can avoid significant losses due to unseasonably cold weather.
