Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala Set to Strengthen Bilateral Ties During High-profile Visit to India

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, representing the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), is embarking on a significant diplomatic visit to India this week. The visit, scheduled to include crucial meetings and engagements, is poised to reinforce diplomatic relations and explore avenues for collaboration between the two nations.

According to the Government Office statement relayed to CTK, Prime Minister Fiala is set to meet his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, during the visit. The agenda comprises a speech at the Vibrant Gujarat economic summit, discussions with local representatives, and a visit to the University in Jaipur.

Fiala’s itinerary also includes a speech at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit, where he is expected to be a keynote guest. This summit, hosting representatives from 30 countries, will witness discussions on economic cooperation and global investment opportunities. Notable attendees include East Timor President and Nobel Prize winner Jose Ramos-Horta, as well as heads of state from the United Arab Emirates and Mozambique.

One potential focal point of the visit, as reported by The Hindu, is the case of Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta, detained in Prague since June. The United States accuses Gupta of conspiring to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader in New York, demanding his extradition. This matter could feature in discussions between Fiala and Indian officials.

The visit also includes engagements in Jaipur, where Prime Minister Fiala is slated to visit the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center. Additionally, he will explore the construction of the Marik Center of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics & Cybernetics, fostering ties with the academic and business communities, local government, and startups.

Prime Minister Fiala’s visit to India follows his commitment in December to strengthen international ties, with plans to visit Spain and Italy in the first half of the year. This visit builds on his previous Asian tour in April and subsequent visits to African nations in November.

Notably, Fiala’s presence at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit marks a continuation of Czech representation at this economic platform. The last Czech Prime Minister to visit India was in 2006, highlighting the significance of Fiala’s diplomatic mission in fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
