Czech Republic Witnesses Record Influx of 39 New Brands in Retail Market, Led by Food and Fashion Sectors
In a noteworthy development, the retail market in the Czech Republic experienced a significant surge with the introduction of 39 new brands in the past year, marking the highest influx in the last decade. More than a third of these new entrants belong to the food, beverage, and grocery sectors, with 14 brands making their debut, followed closely by the fashion industry with nine new entries.
Italy emerged as the leading country of origin for these new brands, introducing eight to the Czech Republic. Slovakia followed with five, while France brought four new brands to the market. Among the notable entrants in the past year were globally recognized names such as Victoria’s Secret, Popeyes, Signorvino, Rossopomodoro, and Zadig & Voltaire, as highlighted by real estate consulting firm Cushman & Wakefield.
Cushman & Wakefield’s research underscores the significance of the Czech market, particularly Prague, as the primary gateway for retail brands venturing into Central and Eastern Europe. The long-term growth in the purchasing power of the Czech population and the conducive business environment have contributed to the presence of a large number of international companies in the market.
Jan Kotrbáček, Head of the retail leasing team for Central and Eastern Europe at Cushman & Wakefield, emphasizes that the Czech Republic, especially Prague, serves as a major European and global tourist destination, attracting a substantial clientele. Last year, Prague saw 33 new brands entering the market, while Brno and Ostrava each welcomed two, and Hatě and Hradec Králové each saw one.
Looking ahead, Kotrbáček anticipates the introduction of new and more dominant concepts from brands already operating in the Czech market. Additionally, the coming year is expected to witness the arrival of new brands, including the planned opening of Five Guys, a fast-food chain in central Prague.
The retail landscape in the Czech Republic is evolving, offering exciting opportunities for both consumers and businesses. The record influx of new brands reflects the dynamic nature of the market and signals positive growth and expansion in the retail sector.
