Embassy of Cyprus – Prague

It was a privilege to participate at today’s opening plenary session and subsequent panels of the 27th Forum 2000 Conference in Prague, under the theme “For a Democratic World Order”, with discussions on how democracies can work together to face common challenges.
Czech President Petr Pavel stressed the vulnerability of democracy and the need to defend it, inter alia, in the face of the spread of misinformation & incitement to hatred. He also urged rational assessment than emotional approaches in the Middle East after the appalling terrorist attacks against Israel & emphasized the need to punish the culprits while pursuing a peaceful solution as soon as possible.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu expressed her confidence in Moldova’s fight for democracy and her gratitude towards everyone who is for supporting her country’s aspirations to join the EU. “It is now Moldova’s turn to come out on the bright side and determine its own destiny as a democracy”.
