Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan supports the project of reintroduction of Převalsky’s horse into Kazakhstan
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko met with the Czech delegation led by Director of the Praha Zoo Miroslav Bobek, which came to Astana to discuss the project of reintroduction of Převalsky horses into Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further steps in implementing the project and agreed on a joint effort for the successful completion of reintroduction work that is important not only for Kazakhstan, but generally for the restoration of biodiversity on the planet.
“It is very pleasing that the project, which started with informal talks between our embassies in Bratislava and Prague and the Bratislava as well as Prague Zoo, has received such strong development and support from the governments of Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic,” said R. Vasilenko. “I would like to assure our Czech friends and colleagues from other resorts of the Republic of Kazakhstan in full support of this important and kind project from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
Reminder: During the visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. Violets in Astana in April 2023 a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Forestry and Hunting Committee of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan and the Prague Zoo, which became the basis for launching the project of reintroduction of Převalsky horses into Kazakhstan.
The aim of the project is to transport approximately 40 horses from Europe to Kazakhstan within five years to create a base for the reintroduced population and restore original functional steppe ecosystems.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the next steps for the implementation of the project and agreed on joint efforts to successfully complete the work on reintroduction, which is important for the restoration of biodiversity on our planet, not only for Kazakhstan but also for the general public.
“I am very happy that the project, which started from informal discussions between our embassies in Bratislava and Prague and the zoos of Bratislava, now has the support of the governments of Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic and has developed power,” said R. Vasilenko. “I assure our Czech friends and colleagues in other departments of the Republic of Kazakhstan that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan will fully support this important and kind project.”

Within the framework of Fiala’s visit to Astana in April 2023, the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Committee of Forestry and Animal World of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Prague Zoo, will be the basis for the launch of the project of transporting Przewalski horses to Kazakhstan.
The aim of the project is to relocate 40 horses from Europe to Kazakhstan over five years, in order to rebuild the reintroduced population base and original functional steppe ecosystems.
