On this day, 77 years ago, the United Nations was founded. The organization was founded after the Second World War to move beyond global conflict to global cooperation. Today, there is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact of the United Nations. However, these values are being tested in this day and time. Therefore, it is important to use today, United Nations Day, to amplify our common values. As UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres wrote: “As we mark UN Day, let us renew our hope and conviction in what humanity can achieve when we work as one, in global solidarity.”
