Breaking the silence – former Israeli soldiers organization
Amnesty International recently published a report on Israeli surveillance technologies being used to control Palestinians in the West Bank.
Amnesty and I shared our testimony and helped uncover Red Wolf – the facial recognition technology deployed at checkpoints.
Ori Givati, ם Advocacy Director, recently wrote about Red Wolf for The Daily Beast:
“Imagine you are walking down the street in your neighborhood, and a group of fully armed soldiers stops you and demands to take a photo of your face. Imagine trying to get out of town for one day, but in order to leave, you have to go through a computer checkpoint that scans your face to decide if you’ll let you through – while recording your every move. Imagine that you are a farmer tending his sheep and a foreign soldier shows up and takes a photo of your face. As soon as your photo is loaded to his phone, he will treat you as a terrorist and detain you on the spot.
This is not a sequel to the 1984 movie nor an episode of the nightmare series Black Mirror. This is the daily life of a Palestinian in the occupied city of Hebron in the West Bank. “
