Embassy of Ukraine in Prague / Velvyslanectví Ukrajiny v Praze

Oksana is the wife of Sergei Sova from Nikopol, who died in the battles for Izjum. The photo of his hand, which had bracelets in Ukrainian national colors on its wrist, went around the world. Sergey went to defend Ukraine in 2014, when Russia attacked the Ukrainian Donbas. He died in fighting near Izjum in mid-April this year.
“When I learned that our army had liberated Izjum, I sought information about the soldiers’ recovered bodies. On Friday, I recognized my husband in the published photo of the exhumed body. I felt horrible and couldn’t hide it from my kids. My older son Marat, who is 14 years old, saw what is happening to me. That’s why he decided to write a letter to the President. I hope the President receives him and he’ll know how proud Marat is of his father and that he wants everyone to be proud. Marat is still a teenager, but he was raised by his father, so he acts like an adult.
The pain of my husband’s death will haunt me for life but I’m the wife of a soldier. Since 2014 he taught me to be strong to meet the challenges of life. I knew I could call him anytime with any problem even if he was hundreds of miles away. He has always been the most important thing to us and the kids. I still want to call him so bad but i have nowhere to go. “
Honor the memory of the heroes of Ukrain
