Embassy of Ukraine in Prague / Velvyslanectví Ukrajiny v Praze

Russian aggression against Ukraine is the main cause of the global food crisis, which can cause serious social, economic and political problems for other world countries.
In response to the food problems faced by the population of African countries, on the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine contributes 50,000 tons of wheat for humanitarian aid to the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic and Somalia she has no republic.
Ukraine is one of the guarantors of world food security and a reliable exporter of cereals. This assistance is a testament to Ukraine’s ability to deliver on its global commitments.
Ukraine supports the activities of the World Food Program, which systematically ensures the supply of grains and its further distribution in areas where people are suffering from hunger.
We also want to emphasize the role of France and Germany, which have decided to join the Ukrainian initiative and reimburse the costs associated with financing humanitarian supplies to these African countries.
Russia is playing the “hunger games” and turning food into a weapon against the world’s most vulnerable countries. It is possible to successfully confront this policy only together and in solidarity. Individual actions of individual countries will not help to save the world from the threat of starvation. Notwithstanding the difficult situation in which the World Community has found themselves because of the Russian invasion, we call on states to help each other and implement other similar humanitarian initiatives.
