The conference will begin on November 25, 2022 at 10:00 Kiev time online. And although the organizers do not know which of the Ukrainian participants will eventually be able to join the event live, they still have high hopes for the conference.

“Despite all the troubles and restrictions caused by the aggressor state by shelling Ukrainian cities, their reports on participation in the conference were submitted by scientists from Kharkiv, Sumy, Kiev, Poltava, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk – the geography of our participants is very wide. I really hope that on Friday in Ukraine there will be no big power outages and we will be able to listen to Ukrainian scientists. The Ukrainian Economic Academy in Podêbrady is a unique phenomenon in the history of Czech-Ukrainian relations, the experience of which does not lose its relevance even in a hundred years,” says Natalia Aksyonova, professor of Kharkiv National University not in the V. N. Karazina.

“The interest in the conference is also in the Czech Republic – Czech Ukrainians from Prague, Pardubice and Brna will speak with reports, and the mayor of Podêbrady Yaroslav Chervinka will speak at the opening of the event,” says Teresa Hlanʹova, head of the Czech Association of Ukrainians and ke level of the Ukrainian seminar of the Institute of Eastern European Studies Charles University in Prague.

Initially, the conference was scheduled to take place in May at Podêbradsky Castle, where the academy was located a hundred years ago, and plans were thwarted by Russian aggression. Following the liberation of Kharkiv region from Russian occupants in September this year, Natalia Aksyonova has taken the initiative to still hold a conference online even in spite of the Russian shelling of Kharkiv and other cities. Partners from the Czech Republic, and this, in addition to Charles University, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic and NGO “Ukrainian Memorial”, supported the idea.

“Since 2017, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic has been systematic work on arranging places of Ukrainian memory in the Czech Republic, in particular, and Ukrainian funerals in the city of Podêbrady, where professors and students of the Ukrainian Economic Academy are buried,” – notes Vitaly Usatij, temporary trusted in the affairs of Ukraine in the Czech Republic. — “Unfortunately, history repeats itself – and a hundred years later Russia again went on a military on Ukraine, trying to occupy and destroy Ukrainian statehood. A hundred years ago, we did not have the support of international partners and were unable to defend our independence. Thousands of Ukrainians were forced to leave for emigration, where they continued to live with the idea of restoring Ukrainian citizenship. That is why the academy in Podêbrady prepared agronomists, engineers, foresters, chemists and other specialists in technical specialties who would return to Ukraine after de-occupation from the Bolshevik forces to rebuild their own state. The idea of founding the Ukrainian Economic Academy and still impresses its far-sightedness and can serve as a good example to us, contemporary “, — adds the diplomat.
