After an intensive three-year repair effort, the main road route in Hanušovice, Šumpersko, which suffered severe damage due to a significant landslide in early 2021, is now fully operational. The Olomouc region invested 103 million crowns in repairing a 440-meter-long section and constructing a retaining wall. The construction process, spanning seven months, was completed last year but faced delays due to objections from environmental activists.

The complexity of the project extended beyond repairs, with a substantial emphasis on environmental protection. A biological supervisor closely monitored the construction, and environmental precautions included the relocation of fish from the stream near the repaired road. Following the landslide in February 2021, the road was initially patched, and one lane became operational by May, with traffic lights managing the flow. The road underwent final repairs during the summer and year-end, with a one-month closure for comprehensive restoration work.

Regional Governor Josef Suchánek expressed gratitude to all parties involved in executing this challenging project and acknowledged the patience of drivers during detours. The reactivation of road II/369, a crucial traffic artery in the mountain region and a vital communication route, was welcomed by Hanušovice Mayor Marek Kostka. The damaged road had posed challenges for residents, villages, and local companies involved in freight transportation.

The repaired road section is situated in a challenging terrain flanked by a steep slope on one side and the Morava River on the other. These risk factors led to a landslide three years ago, necessitating extensive reconstruction. To mitigate future risks, a new retaining wall, ditches, gutters, and a partial relocation of the Morava riverbed were implemented. While trees were impacted during construction, they will be replaced as part of a greenery enhancement project, adorning streets and public areas in neighboring Hanušovice.
