Gala Dinner of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Prague
Tradition, Diplomacy and Networking at the Four Seasons Hotel
On Tuesday, 3 February, the Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Prague, Mr. Jiří Krejča, invited members and friends of the Chamber to the traditional Gala Dinner held at the Four Seasons Hotel Prague. The event once again ranked among the most prominent social and business gatherings of the year, bringing together representatives from the business community, diplomacy, and public life in an atmosphere of elegance and openness.
Guests of honour included Her Excellency Ms. Emily Ann McLaughlin, Ambassador of Canada to the Czech Republic, and Mr. Peter Formánek, the long‑serving former President of the Chamber, now retired, whose leadership played a decisive role in shaping and strengthening the organisation over many years.
A Celebration of Canadian–Czech Relations
For many years, the Gala Dinner of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce has been far more than a formal social occasion. It serves as a visible symbol of the strong economic, political, and cultural ties between Canada and the Czech Republic. At a time of global economic transformation and geopolitical uncertainty, such platforms have become increasingly important, as they foster trust, encourage dialogue, and support long‑term cooperation.
In his welcoming remarks, Chairman Jiří Krejča emphasised the Chamber’s role as a bridge between Canadian and Czech companies. The Chamber, he noted, is not merely an advocacy organisation but an active network that promotes innovation, investment, and mutual understanding. Personal contact, he stressed, remains irreplaceable – and the Gala Dinner provides precisely the right setting for such encounters.
Musical Elegance as an Opening Highlight
The evening began with a refined musical introduction that immediately set a distinguished tone. A harpist opened the programme with a beautifully performed selection, her delicate yet expressive music filling the historic spaces of the Four Seasons Hotel with a sense of calm and timeless elegance. The performance created a moment of reflection and anticipation, allowing guests to arrive, settle in, and begin their first conversations in a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere.
The choice of the harp proved particularly fitting, combining classical refinement with a light, contemporary feel. It underscored the evening’s ceremonial nature without creating distance, reinforcing the event’s welcoming and convivial character.
Fine Dining and Carefully Selected Wines
Following the musical opening, guests were invited to enjoy an exquisite dinner prepared by the Four Seasons Hotel’s culinary team. The multi‑course menu reflected the standards of an international gala event, offering both quality and creativity. Selected wines and spirits accompanied the dinner, carefully chosen to complement each course and enhance the overall dining experience.
The shared meal played a central role throughout the evening. It provided not only culinary pleasure but also a natural framework for conversation. Around the festively set tables, discussions ranged from economic trends and investment opportunities to innovation, sustainability, and the future of transatlantic cooperation.
Honouring Experience and Diplomatic Engagement
A particularly meaningful part of the evening was dedicated to the guests of honour. Her Excellency Emily Ann McLaughlin highlighted the enduring and friendly relations between Canada and the Czech Republic, underlining the importance of economic diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties. Institutions such as the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, she noted, play a vital role in transforming political goodwill into practical cooperation.
Warm recognition was also extended to Mr. Peter Formánek, whose long tenure as President of the Chamber left a lasting legacy. Many members associate his name with years of growth, professionalisation, and increased international visibility of the Chamber. His presence at the Gala Dinner symbolised continuity, experience, and commitment to shared values.
Networking at the Heart of the Evening
As the formal programme concluded, the Gala Dinner evolved into what it is best known for: an outstanding opportunity for networking. Throughout the evening, members and guests engaged in lively and meaningful conversations, forging new connections and strengthening existing relationships.
The atmosphere remained open, friendly, and focused on exchange. Entrepreneurs, diplomats, consultants, and representatives of international companies met on equal footing to discuss concrete projects, market experiences, and strategic perspectives, while also sharing personal insights and professional stories.
A Strong Signal for the Future
The Gala Dinner of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce at the Four Seasons Hotel Prague was therefore much more than a prestigious social event. It stood as a clear expression of a dynamic and resilient network built on trust, continuity, and openness. In an increasingly fragmented global environment, such personal encounters are becoming ever more valuable.
Through its successful combination of musical elegance, outstanding cuisine, distinguished guests, and intensive networking, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce once again sent a strong signal. The evening reaffirmed its role as a key platform for Canadian–Czech economic relations and as a place where dialogue leads to concrete cooperation and lasting partnerships.
