Grand Lighting Ceremony Unveils Czech Republic’s Largest Christmas Wreath at Loučeň Castle

Loučeň Castle in Nymburk welcomed the advent season in grandeur with a spectacular lighting ceremony of the largest Christmas wreath in the Czech Republic. The festive event, organized by castle administrators on a Saturday afternoon and evening, set a magical tone for the holiday season, captivating the hearts of visitors.

Measuring an impressive nearly sixteen meters in diameter, the Christmas wreath at Loučeň Castle has secured a record for its size, complete with a certificate from the Good Day Agency and an entry in the prestigious Czech Book of Records. Castle castellan Vratislav Zákoutský, along with hundreds of spectators, eagerly awaited dusk to fall, creating an enchanting atmosphere perfect for the ceremonial lighting of the colossal wreath.

The castle grounds came alive with the harmonious melodies of Christmas carols and the aromatic essence of mulled wine. As the clock neared 4 PM, attendees gathered around the giant wreath, filled with anticipation for the arrival of angels who would illuminate the candles. Nature contributed to the magical scene as snowflakes gently descended, bestowing the castle grounds with a picturesque and festive ambiance.

Complementing the wreath lighting, the castle tours embraced the holiday spirit, with a focus on Christmas traditions, particularly the art of decorating Christmas trees. Each room showcased a uniquely adorned conifer, with costumed guides portraying characters such as foresters, chamberlains, the White Lady, or princesses from the renowned Thurn-Taxis family. These guides offered insights into the origins of the decorations, enhancing the immersive experience for visitors.

During the Advent season, while delving into the castle’s history might take a backseat, tourists are immediately enveloped in the enchanting tale of the Christmas tree, symbolized by the classic castle slippers donned by visitors. Embroidered with the emblem “The Story of the Christmas Tree,” these slippers ensure that every step within Loučeň Castle captures the true spirit of Christmas, from the ground up to the ceiling.
