Greece and the Czech Republic – Unlocking Potential

On May 20, 2026, the Embassy of Greece in Prague, under the leadership of the Greek Ambassador to the Czech Republic, H.E. Konstantinos “Dinos” Konstantinou, hosted the high-level symposium “Greece and the Czech Republic – Unlocking Potential.” The conference took place in the prestigious premises of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, one of the Czech capital’s most important cultural institutions. The venue’s host was the museum’s Director General, PhDr. Radim Vondráček, Ph.D., who welcomed the participants to the elegant historical surroundings of the museum. The conference focused on political, economic, technological, educational, and strategic opportunities for deeper cooperation between Greece and the Czech Republic and brought together leading representatives from government, diplomacy, business, defense industries, tourism, and academia.

The event was marked by a highly positive and optimistic atmosphere. From the very beginning, during informal conversations and networking sessions, it became clear that both Greece and the Czech Republic are seeking to significantly deepen their bilateral relations in the coming years. Between the individual panels, participants enjoyed Greek specialties, Mediterranean appetizers, and Greek wines, creating an atmosphere that at times felt more like a business conference in Athens or Thessaloniki than in the center of Prague.

The symposium opened with the strategic discussion panel entitled “Strategic Convergence in Unsettled Times: Energy Security, Defense Industry, and Regional Stability.” The discussion was moderated by well-known CNN Prima political commentator Thomas Kulidakis. Among the distinguished speakers were Haris Theocharis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece; Jiří Brodský, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic; and Jan Sechter, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of the Czech Republic. Also participating was Angelos Syrigos, Member of the Greek Parliament and Associate Professor of International Law and Foreign Policy.

One of the central topics of the symposium was the economic potential between the two countries. In the session “Unlocking Economic Potential: Investment Opportunities in Greece & the Allwyn Success Story,” representatives from Enterprise Greece and executives from the international lottery and technology company Allwyn discussed investment opportunities, economic growth sectors, and future forms of economic cooperation between Greece and the Czech Republic.

Particular attention was drawn to the panel dedicated to the defense industry. Under the title “Defence Industry,” representatives from both countries discussed the prospects for closer cooperation in the fields of security, armaments, innovation, and industrial production. Participants included Jiří Hynek, President of the Czech Defence and Security Industry Association (AOBP); Tassos Rozolis from the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence Material Association (SEKPY); Major General Ioannis Bouras from the Greek Ministry of Defence; and several representatives of Czech and Greek industrial companies. In light of current geopolitical developments, it became clear that both countries see significant potential for joint projects in defense, technology, and industrial cooperation.

Another major focus of the conference was digital transformation and artificial intelligence. During the session “Greece’s Digital Leap Forward (2019–2026),” Christos Dermentzopoulos, Deputy Minister of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence of Greece, spoke about Greece’s remarkable digital transformation in recent years. Topics such as artificial intelligence, connectivity, public administration modernization, and future technologies were at the center of the discussion.

Education and academic cooperation also played an important role. During the session “Education: Fostering Partnerships between Czech and Greek Universities,” representatives from prestigious universities and ministries discussed the internationalization of higher education and the strengthening of academic partnerships. Participants included Dr. Dimitrios Bourantonis from the Greek Ministry of Education, PhDr. Jindřich Fryč from the Czech Ministry of Education, representatives of Charles University in Prague, Athens University, and other important academic institutions.

The forum also addressed tourism, labor mobility, and “Brain ReGain” — the effort to encourage highly qualified professionals to return to Greece. Several discussions emphasized Greece’s growing ambition to position itself as a modern European hub for innovation, technology, tourism, and investment.

The symposium concluded with extensive networking and numerous bilateral discussions among entrepreneurs, diplomats, politicians, and academic representatives. Many participants expressed strong optimism regarding the future development of Greek-Czech relations. Particular emphasis was placed on the complementary economic structures of both countries, their shared interests within the European Union and NATO, and the growing opportunities for cooperation in defense, energy, digitalization, education, tourism, and advanced technologies.

The elegant setting of the Museum of Decorative Arts, combining historical architecture with modern cultural identity, provided a fitting backdrop for a conference devoted to innovation, partnership, and future-oriented cooperation. The event clearly demonstrated that relations between Greece and the Czech Republic now extend far beyond traditional diplomacy and are increasingly shaped by concrete economic, technological, academic, and strategic partnerships.

Ελλάδα και Τσεχική Δημοκρατία – Unlocking Potential

Στις 20 Μαΐου 2026, η Πρεσβεία της Ελλάδας στην Πράγα, υπό την ηγεσία του Πρέσβη της Ελλάδας στην Τσεχική Δημοκρατία, κ. Κωνσταντίνου «Ντίνου» Κωνσταντίνου, διοργάνωσε το υψηλού επιπέδου συμπόσιο «Greece and the Czech Republic – Unlocking Potential». Η εκδήλωση πραγματοποιήθηκε στους εντυπωσιακούς χώρους του Μουσείου Διακοσμητικών Τεχνών της Πράγας, ενός από τα σημαντικότερα πολιτιστικά ιδρύματα της τσεχικής πρωτεύουσας. Ο οικοδεσπότης του χώρου ήταν ο Γενικός Διευθυντής του μουσείου, PhDr. Radim Vondráček, Ph.D., ο οποίος καλωσόρισε τους συμμετέχοντες στο κομψό ιστορικό περιβάλλον του μουσείου.

Το συνέδριο επικεντρώθηκε στις πολιτικές, οικονομικές, τεχνολογικές, εκπαιδευτικές και στρατηγικές προοπτικές συνεργασίας μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Τσεχικής Δημοκρατίας και συγκέντρωσε κορυφαίους εκπροσώπους της πολιτικής, της διπλωματίας, των επιχειρήσεων, της αμυντικής βιομηχανίας, του τουρισμού και της ακαδημαϊκής κοινότητας.

Η εκδήλωση χαρακτηρίστηκε από ιδιαίτερα θετική και αισιόδοξη ατμόσφαιρα. Από τις πρώτες κιόλας συζητήσεις και τις στιγμές δικτύωσης έγινε φανερό ότι τόσο η Ελλάδα όσο και η Τσεχική Δημοκρατία επιδιώκουν να ενισχύσουν σημαντικά τις διμερείς τους σχέσεις τα επόμενα χρόνια. Ανάμεσα στις επιμέρους συνεδρίες, οι συμμετέχοντες απόλαυσαν ελληνικές γεύσεις, μεσογειακά εδέσματα και ελληνικά κρασιά, δημιουργώντας μια ατμόσφαιρα που θύμιζε περισσότερο επιχειρηματικό συνέδριο στην Αθήνα ή τη Θεσσαλονίκη παρά στο κέντρο της Πράγας.

Το συμπόσιο άνοιξε με τη στρατηγική συζήτηση με τίτλο «Strategic Convergence in Unsettled Times: Energy Security, Defense Industry, and Regional Stability». Τη συζήτηση συντόνισε ο γνωστός πολιτικός σχολιαστής του CNN Prima, Thomas Kulidakis. Μεταξύ των ομιλητών ήταν ο Υφυπουργός Εξωτερικών της Ελλάδας Χάρης Θεοχάρης, ο Υφυπουργός Εξωτερικών της Τσεχικής Δημοκρατίας Jiří Brodský και ο Υφυπουργός Βιομηχανίας και Εμπορίου Jan Sechter. Συμμετείχε επίσης ο βουλευτής και καθηγητής Διεθνούς Δικαίου και Εξωτερικής Πολιτικής Άγγελος Συρίγος.

Ένα από τα βασικά θέματα του συμποσίου ήταν οι οικονομικές προοπτικές μεταξύ των δύο χωρών. Στη συνεδρία «Unlocking Economic Potential: Investment Opportunities in Greece & the Allwyn Success Story», εκπρόσωποι της Enterprise Greece και στελέχη της διεθνούς εταιρείας τεχνολογίας και τυχερών παιχνιδιών Allwyn συζήτησαν επενδυτικές ευκαιρίες, αναπτυξιακούς τομείς και νέες μορφές οικονομικής συνεργασίας μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Τσεχίας.

Ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον προσέλκυσε επίσης η θεματική ενότητα για την αμυντική βιομηχανία. Εκπρόσωποι των δύο χωρών συζήτησαν τις προοπτικές στενότερης συνεργασίας στους τομείς της ασφάλειας, της άμυνας, της καινοτομίας και της βιομηχανικής παραγωγής. Μεταξύ των συμμετεχόντων ήταν ο Jiří Hynek, Πρόεδρος της Τσεχικής Ένωσης Αμυντικής και Ασφαλιστικής Βιομηχανίας (AOBP), ο Tassos Rozolis από την Ελληνική Ένωση Κατασκευαστών Αμυντικού Υλικού (SEKPY), ο Υποστράτηγος Ιωάννης Μπούρας από το ελληνικό Υπουργείο Άμυνας, καθώς και εκπρόσωποι ελληνικών και τσεχικών βιομηχανικών επιχειρήσεων.

Ένα ακόμη σημαντικό θέμα του συνεδρίου ήταν ο ψηφιακός μετασχηματισμός και η τεχνητή νοημοσύνη. Κατά τη συνεδρία «Greece’s Digital Leap Forward (2019–2026)», ο Υφυπουργός Ψηφιακής Διακυβέρνησης και Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης Χρήστος Δερμεντζόπουλος μίλησε για τη σημαντική ψηφιακή πρόοδο της Ελλάδας τα τελευταία χρόνια.

Η εκπαίδευση και η ακαδημαϊκή συνεργασία κατείχαν επίσης σημαντική θέση στο πρόγραμμα. Στη συνεδρία «Education: Fostering Partnerships between Czech and Greek Universities», εκπρόσωποι πανεπιστημίων και υπουργείων συζήτησαν τη διεθνοποίηση της ανώτατης εκπαίδευσης και την ενίσχυση των συνεργασιών μεταξύ ελληνικών και τσεχικών πανεπιστημίων.

Το φόρουμ ασχολήθηκε ακόμη με θέματα τουρισμού, κινητικότητας εργατικού δυναμικού και «Brain ReGain», δηλαδή της επιστροφής εξειδικευμένων επαγγελματιών στην Ελλάδα. Οι συζητήσεις ανέδειξαν τη φιλοδοξία της Ελλάδας να καθιερωθεί ως σύγχρονο ευρωπαϊκό κέντρο καινοτομίας, τεχνολογίας, τουρισμού και επενδύσεων.

Το συμπόσιο ολοκληρώθηκε με εκτεταμένο networking και πολλές διμερείς συζητήσεις μεταξύ επιχειρηματιών, διπλωματών, πολιτικών και ακαδημαϊκών εκπροσώπων. Πολλοί συμμετέχοντες εξέφρασαν αισιοδοξία για το μέλλον των ελληνοτσεχικών σχέσεων και υπογράμμισαν τις μεγάλες δυνατότητες συνεργασίας στους τομείς της άμυνας, της ενέργειας, της ψηφιοποίησης, της εκπαίδευσης, του τουρισμού και των νέων τεχνολογιών.

Το κομψό περιβάλλον του Μουσείου Διακοσμητικών Τεχνών, που συνδυάζει ιστορική αρχιτεκτονική και σύγχρονη πολιτιστική ταυτότητα, αποτέλεσε το ιδανικό σκηνικό για ένα συνέδριο αφιερωμένο στην καινοτομία, τη συνεργασία και τον κοινό προσανατολισμό προς το μέλλον. Η εκδήλωση κατέδειξε ξεκάθαρα ότι οι σχέσεις μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Τσεχικής Δημοκρατίας ξεπερνούν πλέον τα όρια της παραδοσιακής διπλωματίας και διαμορφώνονται όλο και περισσότερο από συγκεκριμένες οικονομικές, τεχνολογικές, ακαδημαϊκές και στρατηγικές συνεργασίες.
