Heart-Shaped Feast Unites Prague Castle Neighborhood in Celebration of Community and Openness

Prague, Czech Republic – In a heartwarming display of unity and community, residents and visitors of Prague Castle came together on Monday evening for a neighborhood feast dubbed “Stůl kolem katedrály” (Table around the cathedral). Organized by the Piana na ulici association, the event aimed to foster a sense of togetherness and celebrate the increasing openness of the historically significant Prague Castle area.

The festivities took place in the courtyard of Prague Castle, with a 400-meter-long table meticulously arranged in the shape of a heart encircling the magnificent St. Vitus Cathedral. Attendees were invited to bring a dish to share or a musical instrument, transforming the occasion into a delightful fusion of gastronomy and entertainment.

From 5 PM until 10 PM, the castle’s courtyard came alive with a vibrant atmosphere as people gathered to dine, converse, sing, and dance to the accompaniment of live music. The absence of a formal program allowed participants the freedom to immerse themselves in the spontaneous joy of the occasion.

Jana Vohralíková, the director of the Office of the President, highlighted the significance of the event in promoting openness within the Prague Castle area. “We see the neighborhood feast as another symbolic step towards greater openness of this historically significant place,” she remarked, underlining the importance of fostering a sense of community in such an iconic location.

The event bore similarities to a previous gathering organized by the Piana na ulici association, where a table connected the banks of the Vltava River via the famed Charles Bridge. This time, however, the table assumed the shape of a heart, encircling the awe-inspiring St. Vitus Cathedral, symbolizing the love and unity shared by the attendees.

The atmosphere throughout the evening was one of camaraderie and conviviality. Visitors expressed their delight at having the opportunity to gather within the President’s residence and praised the warm and inclusive environment. “I like that this can happen right here at the castle. Nothing like this was possible not long ago,” shared one visitor, encapsulating the sentiments of many.

President Petr Pavel, who graced the occasion with his presence, walked along the table, engaging with attendees, and even sampling the diverse array of food and beverages on offer. His enthusiasm and support for the event were evident as he expressed his admiration for the gathering. “It would be beautiful if the event were to repeat in the future. I think we can establish more traditions here. This social gathering also seems beautiful,” he commented.

As the sun set over the enchanting Prague Castle, the heart-shaped feast at St. Vitus Cathedral left a lasting impression on all those who attended. Through the power of food, music, and togetherness, the event served as a testament to the vibrant spirit of the Prague Castle neighborhood and its ongoing journey towards openness and community.
