Installing Solar Panels on a Family Home: A Half Million Investment

According to a recent public opinion survey conducted by Ipsos for Energetický holding Malina, the two main reasons homeowners in Czech Republic are discouraged from acquiring photovoltaics are the high initial investment and complicated administration. The survey found that 85% of respondents cited the high cost as a deterrent, with 68% citing complicated administration as a concern, and only 60% citing delivery date as a concern.

The average cost of a solar power plant for a family home is around 400-500 thousand Czech crowns, with a return on investment taking five to ten years according to the companies. The New Green Savings Programme offers a subsidy of CZK 200,000 plus CZK 5,000 for project preparation, and it can also be combined with a CZK 30,000 subsidy for a charging station for an electric car.

To make the investment more accessible, building savings and special loan programs from banks can also be used. Buřinka, for example, offers a loan for photovoltaics without needing a mortgage on the property, and the interest rate is 0.3% lower than a standard renovation loan. Additionally, 15% of the interest paid can be deducted from taxes yearly.

It is important to note that the size of the solar power plant is also crucial for the investment to be worth it. Zero Living emphasizes that it is important to size the plant correctly from the beginning so that overflows are kept to a minimum and the household can use the energy itself.

In conclusion, despite the subsidies offered by the government, the high initial investment and complicated administration are still major obstacles for homeowners in Czech Republic to acquire photovoltaics. However, with the help of building savings, special loan programs from banks and proper planning, the investment in solar power can be made more accessible.
