Intense Storms Sweep Across Czech Republic, Causing Disruptions and Flooding

Several intense storms, predicted by meteorologists, have swept across the Czech Republic, bringing heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds. The storms began in southern Bohemia and progressed to northern Moravia, affecting various regions along the way. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) has issued warnings about the severe weather conditions, urging residents to take precautions.

Meteorologists have reported hailstones up to two centimeters in diameter and rainfall of up to 45 millimeters in some areas. The storms are expected to continue in the southeastern half of the country until the evening. The main line of storms stretches from Poland through Ostrava, Blansko, Třebíč, and southern Bohemia, progressing southeastward.

The southern and eastern parts of Moravia, which still have warm and humid air, have been particularly affected by the storms. Intense precipitation and hailstorms have been observed, causing disruptions and damage in some areas. Reports of flooding, restricted road access, and mudslides have emerged from the Zlín Region, where the heavy rains caused water and mud to partially flood highways and roads.

Firefighters have been responding to numerous incidents related to the severe weather conditions, including water pumping and removing fallen trees. The highest number of interventions has been reported in the Znojmo and Brno regions.

In addition to the immediate impact of the storms, meteorologists have also issued warnings about rising river levels. The combination of intense rainfall and saturated soil can lead to increased river levels, posing a risk of flooding in some areas.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts, follow instructions from local authorities, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. It is important to exercise caution while traveling and to avoid areas prone to flooding.
