It was over 37 degrees in Strážnice today, only around 20 in the west of Bohemia

Prague – Today, the highest temperature was measured in Strážnice in Hodonínsk, where it was 37.3 degrees Celsius. In other places, mainly in central and south-eastern Moravia, they recorded over 36 degrees. Conversely, in the Karlovy Vary region in western Bohemia, the thermometer showed only around 20 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. Marie Odstrčilová from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) told ČTK.

The temperature record for July 21 was broken today by almost thirty of the 160 stations that have been operating for at least 30 years.

This week, the Czechia is experiencing tropical weather, which will last for the coming days, at least in the south of Moravia. Today, the first showers and thunderstorms appeared initially in the west and south of Bohemia, which may spread to other parts of the country during the evening and night. Forecasters warned that some storms could be severe with torrential rain, hail and gusty winds.

Although the maximum temperature exceeded 37 degrees Celsius today, June 19 remains the hottest day of the year so far. At that time, it was exactly 39 degrees Celsius in Řež near Prague. It was the highest recorded June temperature in the Czech Republic.
