🌐 Seminar – Strengthening Democracies in the Digital Age🌐
Under the esteemed patronage of Speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová, the Embassy of Latvia hosted a dynamic seminar at the Czech National Library on November 14. Diplomats, experts, and scholars from around the world gathered to tackle the challenges faced by democracies in the digital era.
🌍 United Nations Dimension: Aligned with Latvia’s ambitious bid for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for the term 2026-2027, the seminar emphasized safeguarding open, free, and secure information landscapes, echoing the principles of the United Nations Charter.
🤝 Global Cooperation: The seminar underscored the joint commitment of Latvia and the Czech Republic to defend human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, highlighting a united international front.
🌐 Regional Collaboration: Distinguished regional panelists, including Ms. Dace Melbārde, Latvian Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Otakar Foltýn, Military Office of the President of the Czech Republic, and Mr. Radek Haratek, Commander of the Information and Cyber Forces of the Czech Army, brought valuable insights to the discussions, showcasing collaborative efforts to address digital challenges in their respective regions, emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in the face of global challenges.
🎉 Gratitude: Special thanks to Mr. Tomáš Foltýn, Director of the Czech National Library, for his crucial role as co-organizer, fostering international cooperation. Heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Viktors Makarovs, Latvia’s Special Envoy on Digital Affairs, recognized for his expertise and tireless coordination.
💼 Strong Partnerships: The collaboration with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, notably Mr. David Konecký, highlighted the strong ties between Latvia and the Czech Republic in addressing contemporary geopolitical challenges.
🤖 Digital Dialogues: Moderated by Mr. Viktors Makarovs and Mr. Patrick Boehler of Radio Free Europe, discussions delved into vital topics like digital disruption, information integrity, and fostering global alliances to strengthen democracies.
🎉 Cultural Finale: The event concluded with a reception and a captivating cultural program by Latvian-Ukrainian artists Katrīna Gupalo and Edgars Vilcāns, highlighting the significance of cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
