Major Truck Accident Causes Nine-Hour Blockage on D1 Highway Near Humpolec, One Fatality and Two Injuries Reported
A significant accident involving multiple trucks resulted in a prolonged blockage on the D1 highway near Humpolec, disrupting traffic for over nine hours. The collision, which occurred around 23:00 at the 90th kilometer in both directions, claimed the life of one driver, with two others sustaining injuries. The D1 highway towards Prague remains impassable near Humpolec.
The incident prompted extensive efforts from authorities to manage the aftermath and clear the highway. An exit from the road was made passable after midnight, with police directing vehicles to exit at kilometer 90 and re-enter the highway at the same location towards Prague. A towing service continued the cleanup, and police rerouted traffic through the exit and entrance to the highway in the morning.
This accident adds to a series of incidents stemming from heavy snowfall and icy conditions, causing transportation challenges across the Czech Republic. Drivers are advised to consider alternative routes, although navigating lower-class roads in Vysočina remains difficult due to snow accumulation.
On the same evening, another collision between two trucks occurred on the D1 near Větrný Jeníkov in Jihlava, at the 104th kilometer of the highway. Trucks faced challenges throughout Vysočina due to adverse weather conditions.
The inclement weather also disrupted rail and bus services, with several vehicles getting stuck on snow-covered roads. Although the situation in the region’s streets has stabilized, caution is urged, especially on lower-class roads where a layer of snow is covered with grit. As authorities continue their efforts to manage the aftermath of the D1 highway accident, travelers are advised to stay informed about road conditions and exercise caution when navigating through areas affected by winter weather.
