National Day of Albania

By Pietro Andrea Podda,  pietro@podda.info

On the 22nd November, the Albanian Embassy has organized the celebration of the National Day of Albania. The venue chosen has been the Kaiserstein Palace, one of the historical palaces that enrich Mala Strana, Prague 1. The 18th century palace has been the residence of two famous military leaders, as well as of the opera singer Ema Destinnova.

The National Day of Albania is officially scheduled for the 28th November. It commemorates the independence of the country, declared in 1912, when Ismail Kemal (Qemali) raised the Albanian flag in Vlora, on the anniversary of the day (28th November 1443) when the Albanian National hero Skanderberg had risen the same flag. The Independence Day is currently celebrated in Albania, Kossovo, North Macedonia and by the Albanian diaspora.

The guests have been welcomed by His Excellency Ilirian Kuka, Ambassador of Albania in the Czech Republic, and his spouse Nevila.  The speeches have been offered by His Excellency and by Mr. Eduard Hulicius,  Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.  Both of the speeches have been introduced by the Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Martin Churavý
